ANREALAGE. 2025-26 A/W COLLECTION “ SCREEN ”
A colour changing T- shirt or shoes that changes it colour in sunlight have been the talk of the town so far. But, designer Kunihiko Morinaga has pushed the trend bit further. He showcased his Autumn/Winter 2025-26 collection in the American Cathedral in Paris, imagines a future where black clothes serve as a SCREEN for displaying any colour, pattern, message or graphic.
He produced clothes from yarns laced all over with teensy LED “balls.” Picture a Times Square billboard packaged broad dress. Each piece of textile is embedded with approximately 10,000 full-color LEDs. MPLUSPLUS was responsible for the LED system design, the planning and development of the wireless control devices, and the production of visuals.
We saw mix of kaleidoscope, patterns bloom, pixelated shapes scatter like flowers, ping-ponging colours, tartans (The material is proprietary to Anrealage and was developed with MPLUSPLUS, a Japanese technology design studio.)
The fashion industry has always tried to be novel by buying new and more and more. Designers over decades tried novelty in existing designs by using moving glitter sequins, moving technology in clothes, and UV -sensitive print techniques to change colours but nothing ever worked in the decadent fashion industry to bring newness /novelty in limited designs. It is always challenging to make technology wearable and accessible to masses, but what Kunihiko Morinaga seems to have achieved seems very close to wearable technology and serves the purpose of novelty and newness as well.
Maybe this is the ultimate sustainable solution – Colour and Design changing clothes! Some sustainability pundits must be intrigued and could see the possibility of buying less in future.
Or this is the greatest crossover between marketing and fashion?
Maybe in the future clothes could become personalised billboards and people would get paid to showcase advertisements on them. ( I could see influencers already queuing up to get their walking /changing billboard dresses). Over last few years, marketing has become more and more accessible to general public. Even one reel-viral influencers with moderate followers are also getting brand collaborations, so advertisements on clothes which serves both fashion and marketing purposes seem quite imminent.
Whatever the future of fashion holds, this collection grabbed the attention and gave designer Kunihiko Morinaga and his brand ANREALAGE a viral moment on the internet. “Before the design was always fixed, but now we can move the design,” Mr. Morinaga said. Fashion is something that never stops and is always moving and changing,” Mr Morinaga said, summing up his ethos.
